THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF THE "DEVOTION" EP

ALBUM PROFILE: The Songs of Devotion

I recorded my new EP Devotion as a beautiful source of healing & peace for these troubled times. Because the inner peace in my life is centered in my faith as a Christian, it's natural that faith was a main source of inspiration for the album. In that sense, Devotion is a collection of songs to the One who is the source of all healing and peace.

I'm so grateful for the power of music to heal & restore us during times of trouble. Since childhood, I've known the Biblical story of how music helped a troubled king Saul when he called for young David to play the harp. As a result, Saul was "refreshed and well, and the evil spirit departed from him." (1st Samuel 16:23)

It's my hope that the songs of Devotion (and all my music) might bring healing & peace to the listener. As with David, the peace in my music flows from the peace I experience each day as a follower of Jesus Christ.

1) Devotion. The title track of the album was inspired by my Christian faith, its beauty & the hope it gives the believer. The spiritual discipline of daily devotions, a time of prayer & meditation on Scripture, is an essential part of being at peace in a fallen world. (Check out Our Daily Bread as a resource for your own devotions).

2) River of Peace. Revelation 22:1 describes a river in heaven "of the water of life," a source of healing & peace for the nations.

3) My Refuge. As a gifted singer/songwriter, King David of Israel wrote many wonderful songs ("psalms"). In Psalm 91, he wrote “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”

4) The Sacrifice Jesus taught that there is no greater love than to sacrifice one's life for a friend (John 15:13). His death on the cross was the ultimate fulfillment of His love for us.

5) Be Still and Know. There is great worth to our spirit in pulling away from the world in a daily time of stillness and meditation. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

6) The Road Home. I've always been inspired by the character of "Christian" in John Bunyan's wonderful novel, Pilgrim's Progress. Centuries later, the story still rings true in the life of every Christian believer as they travel the road of life towards home.
